Attracting business a target in Lanagan

Lanagan is a small community of 411 people; a town of no income other than what it gets from its water service and a small sales tax base and with no sewer service.

Working on those priorities in 2008 is a target for Mayor Roger McMillan, especially attracting more businesses to the city.

“I think we’re getting better,” McMillan said. “We’ve still got work to do. We’ve got a couple of new businesses; hopefully, we’ll get more.”

But attracting businesses is not easy when your infrastructure is not complete. McMillan thinks getting sewer service is critical.

“We can’t really offer them a whole lot yet,” he said. “We’d like to get some annexation going. I’d like to eventually see sewer come in. There are a lot of homes with old septic systems.”

Work on the water system is one of the major projects planned for 2008.

More community involvement, with the citizenry helping to put on carnivals and the like would help. “We’ve got a beautiful park - put it to use,” McMillan declared.
