Season ends for Mustang golfers
The McDonald County Mustang Golf Team improved by 25 strokes over the same course from the Southwest Conference Tournament to the Missouri Class 3 District 6 Tournament, but the teams total of 398 still left the Mustangs in ninth place out of 10 teams.
Winning the district title was Carl Junction with a 325 team total followed by Nevada and Carthage with 331 each, Republic 342, Cassville 351, Webb City 359, Seneca 374, Monett 375, McDonald County 398 and Aurora 420.
Levi Stone and Josh Pottorff each shot 95 to lead McDonald County. Rounding out the scoring for the Mustangs were Dustin Shurback with a 101, Adam Henson 107 and Josh McMahan 152.
In the conference tournament, McDonald County finished with a team total of 423. Carthage won the conference meet with a 318 followed by Neosho and Nevada tied with 327, and Webb City with a 346.
Pottorff led the Mustangs with a 97 followed by Stone with a 101, Shurback 107, Henson 118 and McMahan 156.
We were young and very inexperienced this year, said coach Mike Austin. It was good learning year for us. Hopefully we will be better next year. The kids need to get on the course this summer and play a lot of golf. It was very enjoyable coaching the kids. I am looking forward to next year.
